2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
A mid day start is definately better for me, I think this is how hinckley has always been run. Also with me doing bedworth and hopefully coventry on sundays its nice to have one day of the week that I don't have to be up too early.
My new car is still to be delivered but even if I can't race then I will be down to help setup etc. The weather forecast isn't looking particualrly brilliant but thats half the fun of being outdoors!

Hi again Tom,
If your Friend still has the Losi XXX BK2 Buggy For Sale, could you get him to bring it to the Hinckley Clubs Trial Buggy Meeting Tomorrow? As I'm very intrested in it.......if the price is right!
Cheers,
Dean.

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Hi everyone,
I'm very pleased to say that the Hinckley Clubs 1st(Trial) Off-Road Buggy Meeting at John Cleveland College today, went extremely well! Considering there were a couple of light showers to begin with, we still had a turnout of just over 20 Racers!......with a fair few Spectators.
Having Round by Round Qualifying(best 2 to count) & a Final seemed to work well for everybody, as the Racing was very close & Competitve.
Everyone did a fantastic job of helping to set the Grass Track up & pack away.......Eventhough, I'm sure we'll all get faster at doing this as the weeks go by!
Race Control was run very effiently by Scott & Dale...........+ excellent commentry by Dale!
Already looking forward to the next Meeting!

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Hi Guys,
May I say thank you for everyone who helped to make the buggy meeting on the 17th a success!
Both Scott and myself have decided that subject to us all helping like we did on saturday, we will run the next meeting on the 31st May 2008.
I suggest a start time for racing of 1pm (like normal) and I would like people to turn up around 11.30am to get the track out.
We have an extension for the loop, so this should make things a little easier this saturday and we do now have all drivers in the system, so booking in will be even quicker.
We now have a good chance to bring buggy racing back for the summers so let stick together and not blow it. I am going to discuss the rostrum situation with the committee and the college and I will post any progress made.
Lets all support Coventry this weekend as they have a three day buggy charity event!
Regards
Dale

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Just to confirm that the next buggy meeting will be on 31st May 2008 from 1pm to 6.00 pm ish.
I have contacted the college regarding a rostrum and I await their reponse over health and safety etc. Any thought's on this would be much appreciated.
If anyone is thinking of getting into buggy racing, can they let me know please and I will do my best to guide them. We have a core of around 26 buggy's that should be at the next meeting and I am keen to see the levels of support rising to over 30 in the coming weeks.
Subject to your continued support we will be looking at investing in new ramps and jumps etc, so it important that we get you down to the meetings!
See you all on the 31st May at 11.30am.
Regards
Dale

Hi Rich,
We would consider 1/8th, but you would need to ensure we had 5-6 cars to create a heat.
Also, we have not measured the noise, so we will see after a week if anyone of the nearby houses compains!!
Thanks for thinking about this Rich, we at HRCCC always want to accomodate drivers and although we are 99% eletric, we would look to support you if we could.

A good point about the noise. Did'nt really think that one through....
Isuggest then, that when i have the car completed i bring it along so we can look intothe noise issue. I could run the car from a distance and we could see if the noise travells too far.
I may be able to borrow a noise meter to get a figure..
Of course, you all know that 2 cars are not twice as loud as one.....

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Hi Richard
I'm sorry to say this but I'm against running rallycross at JCC outdoors for a number of reasons which I'll explain later . I ran rallycross last year at Coventry and J12, I must say I felt the J12 race track was absolutely awsome, in dry weather conditions the racing experience on the dirt track was absolutely great and I would recommend it to anyone . There's a video on "youtube" from april last year which shows one of the race meetings. I think the cars themselves similarly are superb, they are so durable and powerful, the nitro experience is quite exillerating. So why am I so reluctant to race at Hinckley
Well
Firstly the point already mentioned about the noise is relevant, the cars are extremly aggressive, the engines are tuned to obtain optimum power and consequently noise levels are high, very high. The engines are typically big block 21's or 28's on the RTR models. I do feel that someone from the suburban neighbourhood at the back of the playing fields is likely to complain to the school and local authority and that would spoil the racing for everyone irrespective of what the measured readings are.
Secondly, these cars are never run on grass, simply because after any meeting there is no grass left, their aggressive nature just rips it up, something I feel that the college would object to.
And finally and most importantly, health and safety, without wishing to apear a kill joy and this is my opinion these cars are significantly more dangerous than their 10th scale counterparts, or to put it another way, need to be treated appropriately, with respect and with a clear understanding of the risks involved, which is something the majour race circuits are keyed up for. I'll quote you an example, I once marshalled a car on its roof and whilst flipping it over caught my finger in the front diff, taking the skin of my finger and leaving me marshalling the remainder of the race trying to contain a gushing wound, what was even more surprising my visit to race control revealed a first aid kit suitable for a armed batallion and comments from one of the organisers like "oh thats only a small one" left me felling somewhat fortunate. This is not to mention the several times I have marshaled a car and before I have been unable to get out the way I have been showered in the eye with stones and dirt from the wheels. I think if the club did decide to race these cars a re-think would be required on the size of the track and the arrangement of the marshal points which would need to offer some form of protection.
At our last meeting Becky and myself reced our 1/10th Nitro trucks along side the 1/10th electric, I had a great day, Becky was a little less convinced because her car kept stalling which turned out to be a sticking clutch bearing which I (being pit man) have to take the blame for. I wanted to thank the electric guys for allowing us to race with them and indeed I still enjoyed the nitro experience with a much smaller car more suited to the Hinckley track. I personally think a heat of 1/10th nitro 2wd trucks would be great.
So to sum up I think if the club did decide to race rallycross, mines ready and waiting but to be truthfull they would spoil it and the tracks not big enough.

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Have to say I'm inclined to agree that Rallycross is a bad idea the moment.
I'm not convinced about Richies arguments about safety, and my experience is that they re not nearly as bad as he makes out. I'm not convinced that they are significantly worse for the grass either, when numbers are low.
My objections are as follows.
1) The noise level. - We are quite close to houses, and the last thing we want is objections before we are even established.
2) Richie is right you need a much bigger wider track for 1/8, which makes 1/10 boring.
3) We've been there, done that got the T-Shirt. Some of the longer serving members will remember that the club used to have a heat off 1/8 guys. For various reasons - one of which being the track, the 1/8 people fell out with the 1/10, and left to form the Blaby club. - Don't know if they're still going, but they already have (had?) a track that races 1/8 at the Jet Ski centre on a Saturday afternoon.

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Oh.... some good points are made above.
I only have experience of 1/8th in the Stock car format as some of you will know. (a comparitively barbaric/ acheaic/ stoneage forumlea)
These run on a containe tarmac only oval on foam tyres. The outside barrier is normally 6mm steel plate which stops cars dead if and WHEN required.
obviously, this is not something hat HRCCC can deal with and therfore saftey is clear and present.
I shall probably come down at somepoint and have a look at the set up, but maybe i should stick to purpous built 1/8th buggy tracks. I just need to find some now.....

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Theres a dirt rallycross track at cov and an astroturf track aswell.
I'll be down with the rascal (16th scale truck with a .18
) on sat if no one objects to the noise.

Re: 2WD ELECTRIC BUGGY RACING OVER THE SUMMER
Hi Guys,
I think the forum is doing its job yet again and discussions are taking place in an appropriate way, which is good for all concerned.
After reading the thoughts on the forum I do believe that 1/8th is not the way to go and I am of course one of those members who remembers the 1/8th heats of before. We used to offer a long straight and loop for the cars to stretch their legs as drivers were getting frustrated with the normal buggy track.
1/8th is a specialist area and with more thought I guess we are just not the track to accomodate them.
Rich - don't be a tight arse and get yourself a second hand buggy!!!! You know you want to......
See you all saturday.
Regards
Dale
