Mardave rules 2008 Re the mardave GP is there / will there be a battery limit. . .
What I mean is do I have to go and buy the LiPo batterys and charger as I can see these being used and its not really in the spirit of mardave Racing so how about a limit of say 3300 cells just a thought any comments from other (non sponsered) racers welcome
Note Im well out on electric racing so this may sound a dumb question if so

Mardaves run on 4 cells or 4.8V total.

Lipo gives 7.4V (2 cells of 3.4V) so is roughly equivalent to 6 cell.

Expect a lot of people to be very unhappy if anybody tries putting a Lipo in there car, as it will make the car a lot, lot, quicker! (Or at least destroy the spur gear )

We would need to look at capacity issues. It gets really expensive when you start dictating what can and cant be used.

I recon 90% of mardaves racers at HRCCC run 4300.... A limit lower than this would render most of us ineligable.

Yea its also expensive if WE ALL gotto get LIPO and a charger But dont forget thats just your club others may run other cells and you could be the minority

Ok so lets limit it to 3300 cells as they are on e bay at £9.00 a pack

Just found this on the forum

"ELECTRICS
Any make of servo, servo saver or track rod ends may be used on the cars steering system.
Any type, make and capacity of speed controller may be used providing it includes reverse.
Cars to use four cells only, cells to be sub-C sized cells only, with a nominal voltage of 1.2 volts per cell, cells to be Nicad and Nimahs.

Well that clears that up . . . LI-Po's are out

So what we all rekon then no limit or stick to 3300 or 4300 etc
I guess the organiser better jump on this soon as it gives us 4 months to save up for batterys

as per the rules on batterys to use the 2007 BRCA electric board approved battery list

and that states as below

2.6 In addition to batteries included on the homologation list, sports/starter level packs of cells that do not have OEM heatshrink, will be allowed at BRCA sanctioned events. These packs must have the original suppliers label intact, stating that they are NiCd or NiMH and the pack capacity. Maximum capacity is 3300mah. These batteries will be allowed at sanctioned events from 1st. Jan. 2007.

So the limit is 3300 cells if I have done my home work can some one confirm that I have this correct

Sorry, I think you may have mis-understood the BRCA rules......

They state......In addition to batteries included in the homologation list......etc

This rule talks about the capacity limit (3300Mah) on 'pre-built' sport packs as these are not detailed on the homologation list......If you check the cells on the BRCA approved list/homologation list you will find that only '08' spec batteries are legal.....up to 4600Mah in some cases.

Now for my point of view...!

I currently use 4200Mah Intellect '07' spec batteries......but, according to the BRCA approved list these are no longer legal. Can one of the organisers of this event/the club (Roger/David T?) please confirm if these will be allowed at the GP? I understand we are running to BRCA rules where applicable and this renders my cells useless.! I am in a very similar position to Gazza and dont want to have to buy new cells when I have perfectly good ones already.

I think this needs clarifying as soon as possible as we run the risk of considerably reducing numbers if we all have to buy new '08' spec cells.......!

Somebody please clear this up once and for all?

Yea because that rule also states 2007 and not 2008
It would be better if some one could just say max battery limit is sub c **00 cells in nicad or nimh
this would clear up any mishaps and end this post.
As a new B to electrics its very confusing
So sorry but a straight forward limit of **00 cell is a lot better than looking for the list as I cant find it

I dont think we can work to a list in this case as there isn't one list that covers all batteries. Although Roger Cosgrove has posted the 2007 list in oneof the other sections.

In my opinion It should be a combination of the 2007, and 2008 lists.....with the addition of GP3300, GP3700, Sanyo 2400.

Yes, they are from a few seasons ago.....I got them to test and build into 4 cell packs for mardave racing.

I then splashed out on new touring car cells and used my old ones (Intellect 4200Mah) for mardave. I therefore no longer have a use for these.

I would think that if cycled, tested and matched into 4 cell packs they would be pretty good but I just dont have the time.!

hence why I will purchase new ones charge and run

so if i buy 3300 (new what trickle charge to start 500mm) then 3.3amp

or
so if i buy 4200 (new what trickle charge to start 500mm) then 4.2amp
