Hinckley RCCC has long been a club that has supported the Mardave as a superb car to introduce new people to circuit racing. The Mardave is simple to get the hang of and is a reasonably cheap way to get into the sport. The car is easy to build and yet is robust and simple to maintain.

But this is only part of the story. As well as being a great little car to introduce people to the sport of RC Racing the Mardave has another side. In the hands of a more experienced driver the Mardave can be a seriously competitive little car. We have often had people comment on how quickly they can move and how nippy they appear.

Perhaps the very best thing about Mardave racing is that everyone who races them seems to be happy and helpful because the Mardave is just a little bucket of fun.

It has always seemed to be a shame that this great little car doesn’t seem to have quite as high a profile in the circuit racing world as it deserves. In an effort to raise its profile and spread the word we at Hinckley RCCC have decided to declare a Mardave GP.

Now we appreciate that everyone who races Mardave circuit has their own way of racing and perhaps their own rules. Indeed we are no different to any other club as we too have our own little variations.

We were left with a decision do we keep to the BRCA regulations for oval racing or do we try and develop the car a little to make it a slightly more appropriate for circuit racing? Well, we chose to try and develop the car but at the same time stay true to the general principles that Mardave racing should be simple and economical.

You will notice that our rules differ in some critical areas (in particular please note the rules allowing holes in the chassis and the 1Kg minimum weight limit). The intention is to try and encourage other clubs to join us so that we can come to a consensus on some nationally recognised rules. As a result these are not set in stone and we would appreciate feedback from other clubs and individuals

Do please come along to our Mardave GP. The cost is £14 per car and will include a handout  G2 motor (normally costing £8.95). We will be providing trophies for  first , second and third plus the top 3 from each final. Additionally whilst they will be included in the heats and finals alongside everyone else, we will have a trophy for the top 3 under 18yo and under 13yo on the day. We race on 6 rolls of that grey carpet stuff (I don’t know what it is called but it seems to be what all the best clubs use). Our circuit is reasonably large and takes a Mardave about 15-16 seconds to lap.

We love Mardaves at our club and we feel they deserve the recognition of a British Grand Prix. Please do come along it should be a good fun day.

All the very best
